Sir Peter Blake

MERC Residential Camps

There are many benefits to organising al camp at Sir Peter Blake MERC.  All our programmes are run by well-experienced instructors who are enthusiastic to share their love of the outdoors with students of all ages.  Because our programmes are run by highly trained instructors, you are only required to bring enough adults to satisfy your school supervision ratios during non-instructional periods.

Activities for School Camps are the same as for day programmes, although there is the additional choice to select an overnight expedition for college students (additional charges will apply).  Students of any age enjoy the chance to wake up at the beach in the morning, knowing that they have an action-packed day ahead of them.  Camps are an excellent way to promote unity, team-work and leadership in an environment away from home and school.

MERC camps are incredibly popular and often require plenty of advance booking.  If your preferred dates for a MERC camp are unavailable we are more than happy to work with you to find alternative dates that are mutually suitable.

In cases where MERC accommodation has already been booked for your preferred dates we recommend one of the following options:

Camp Maynard, is situated in Albany on the North Shore of Auckland and some 15 minutes drive from MERC. An outdoor camping area, with cooking sites, water and toilets, capable of supporting a tented camp of 120 persons, and internal accommodation for up to 59 people with kitchen, lounge, training / meeting rooms and dining room make this an ideal site for just about any group.

Vaughan Park Anglican Retreat Centre is situated next door to us in Long Bay.  Students stay in communal accommodation and attend MERC for instruction between 9am and 4pm each day.  Meals are fully catered at Vaughan Park with no additional transport being required to attend MERC.

YMCA Waiwera Lodge is situated 20 – 30 minutes drive north of MERC.  Students stay in one of 3 A-frame units and have the option to either have meals provided or self-catered.  It is a requirement of making a booking at Waiwera that you organise transport to get students to and from MERC each day.
