Financial Relief

Want to contribute to these initiatives?

Whether you are looking at a one-off donation, an ongoing donation or providing a bequest to the Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre, you are directly contributing to financial relief initiatives that enable all children to experience life-changing marine environmental education and outdoor experiences.

Fund for disadvantaged children

Sir Peter Blake MERC manages a fund for disadvantaged children which school groups are welcome to apply for. We believe that all children have the right to experience quality education opportunities and understand that financial barriers may make this difficult for some families to afford. To apply for a subsidy on a Sir Peter Blake MERC experience, please fill out the application form below.

Blake Experience

The Blake Experience is a two-and-a-half-day, residential camp which is targeted towards lower socio-economic schools with an Equity Index score (EQI) between 494-569.

Initiated in 2011 and thanks to the generosity of Team New Zealand, this opportunity has been able to provide funding support to enable less advantaged children to experience engaging, quality marine experiences and includes three marine activities per day, all the equipment, meals, accommodation and the return bus transport to and from the group’s school.

Children learn invaluable marine skills including an introduction to the sea (tides, waves, marine life), all aspects of water safety (weather, hypothermia, depth and drowning), and practical knowledge including sailing, swimming and kayaking.
